John's Place Mattituck

In operation since the founding of Maureen's Haven in 2002, the Mattituck Presbyterian Church site has been serving the homeless in our community every Thursday evening from November through March. We are now under the auspices of Mercy Haven Inc., sister site: John's Place Greenport located at St. Agnes Church, which serves the guests on Tuesday nights.

Mission Statement

To provide our guests a safe haven, which includes: a warm place to sleep, nourishing food, warm clothing; where possible, connect the guest with helpful Social Services and housing/employment opportunities and other assistance; to offer our guests the dignity to be: heard / seen / touched / celebrated as children of God.

To provide our volunteers the astonishing privilege of being the hands and feet of Christ as we work alongside Him, and at the same time ministering to Jesus Himself, as we care for these, His brothers and sisters. While this ministry is Christian based, we invite all people, regardless of race, creed, religion, to participate, whether guest or volunteer.

What Can You Do to Help?

  • Pray hard: for our guests and the volunteers from Mattituck Presbyterian, Advent Lutheran, Community Christian Fellowship & Church of the Redeemer.
  • Volunteer: We meet at Mattituck Presbyterian Church every Thursday from 5:00 pm thru Friday 7:00am, from November 1st - April 1st. We need help with set-up, food prep, clean-up, hang out with guests in the evening, overnight ( you are not alone and yes you may sleep :), Friday AM breakfast, etc. We would also like to provide activities, if you want to share your hobby, read the Bible, or maybe you have a service to share, like haircuts. We could always use a visiting doctor, nurse or EMT. Remember, even if you only come once or twice, your help is appreciated ! !
  • Provide: $4.00 buys a round trip bus ticket for guests; $20.00 provides one hour of Screeners. Money is also used for supplies, guests needs ( like prescription glasses), Christmas gifts. We also need packs of new white crew socks and T-shirts, new pillows, vinyl pillow protectors, used DVD’s (PG-13), new or gently used jeans, pj’s, shoes, boots, hoodies. Donations can be left in the box in the Narthex or with the MPC office. Please make checks to John's Place Mattituck, PO Box 1411, Mattituck, NY 11952.There are also gift envelopes in the pews each week that can be given to a Deacon or the MPC office.
  • Support: Our annual fund raising effort ROCKIN' FOR THE HOMELESS which is held the weekend before Super Bowl Sunday weekend. Come and have a great time!
